Our daily routine is one of the most important tools in making our life comfortable and enjoyable. We can make adjustments to that routine to suit our needs. If you change your daily routine, will you be able to create a healthier you?
Like anything, changing an unhealthy daily routine is a good first step towards healthy living, but how many times do we really change the bad habit that we are in? The bad habit is there, we just don’t think about it. We don’t even realize that it is a bad habit, we are just doing it for the pleasure of doing it.

Habits are like habits. They are not easy to break. We know that when we are doing them that they are not healthy and that there is something wrong with them. We know that we should change them.
It is necessary to change our routines to create new habits. We have to put aside some time in the morning to prepare our daily routine and then we have to commit to it. Just as we change our behavior to get what we want in life, we need to change our routines to create habits.
Now, there are many habits that we need to change. We are not talking about eating right or not smoking, those habits are not hard to change. They are easy. A good way to create a new habit is to make a conscious decision.
What can you do today to make a conscious decision to make your daily routine a little bit better? How can you stay on task in your daily routine? Think about what habits you want to change. For example, you might be able to do a thirty-minute walk, which is also part of your daily routine. Then, decide that you are going to walk each day for the next month.
Then, try to change that thirty minutes into two thirty-minute sessions and then into three or four sessions over the next month. After a month, it may be necessary to do a couple of sessions at once.
Do this every month for the next few months until you find a new habit that you want to do. By doing this, you are actually creating the habit. You are also making it easier to change because you have the same daily routine, but you are changing it to fit you.
And it doesn’t have to be a big change for the new habit to stick. For example, when you are walking every day, you can probably say goodbye to smoking for the next twenty years. So if you decide to get off the couch and go for a brisk walk, you are making a big change. In fact, many people who are trying to quit are able to do it because they have developed a routine that allows them to do it easily.

One thing you should keep in mind is that as long as you have made a conscious decision to change a habit, you are making progress in the right direction. This does not mean that you will be successful with your new habit without changing your daily routine. Some habits take more time than others. It all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
In other words, it’s not enough to say that if you want to start a new habit you will be doing it tomorrow. You have to commit to doing it, and be willing to change your daily routine to accommodate your new habit.

My family and I try to incorporate some form of exercise in our life; like walking around the neighborhood, bike riding, shooting some baskets or lifting weights.

I totally agree with you! During the last couple of months I have made a conscious decision to change my daily routine in order to pursue a healthier lifestyle. I started daily walks and made sure to walk a total of 8 miles per week. Currently I am walking a total of 18 to 20 miles a week. I am glad that I have made these changes!
